One Fast Move Or I’m Gone: Music From Kerouac’s Big Sur by Jay Farrar and Benjamin Gibbard

“One fast move or I’m gone.” Jack Kerouac writes these words multiple times in his novel Big Sur as he begins to suffer from delirium tremens (the medical condition, not the delicious beer). I’m about 1/3 of the way into the book and I’m really enjoying it.

I decided to read the book after hearing the music above, which is sort of a soundtrack for the documentary that looks at the events which inspired Kerouac’s Big Sur. Jay Farrar (of Son Volt, Uncle Tupelo) and Ben Gibbard (of Death Cab for Cutie, Postal Service, Zooey Deschanel) do the soundtrack. I’ve always liked both these guys so it was no surprise that I loved that album. Hoping to buy it on vinyl soon with the included DVD of the documentary.
